Livestock Building Agri-environmental Assessment Laboratory

The Livestock Building Agri-environmental Assessment Laboratory assists with research in the areas of air quality, odour emissions, and GHGs.

Rigorous and representative testing

The laboratory conducts thorough assessments of livestock buildings, taking into account animal species, diet composition, manure management, and ventilation systems.

It provides the various agricultural sectors the option of rapidly repeating rigorous and cost-effective tests under conditions that model those found in actual livestock buildings.

Main equipment

  • Twelve identical and independent experimental chambers
  • Various types of flooring options and hoppers
  • A manure collection system with removable and interchangeable drawers, allowing for the testing of innovative designs
  • A centralized air intake that serves all chambers so they can be pre-heated or cooled as required
  • A continuous measurement system that regulates air temperature, relative humidity and air flow, as well as the concentrations of carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane, and nitrous oxide
