The Environmental Microbiology and Phytopathology Laboratory is equipped to monitor pathogen populations, detect pesticide resistance, conduct efficacy trials, and carry out a variety of studies on the epidemiology of diseases with significant economic repercussions.
Phytopathology research is carried out at the IRDA experimental orchard and in the containment level 1 (CL1) and 2 (CL2) laboratories, which meet Canadian biosafety standards and guidelines.
The Environmental Microbiology and Phytopathology Laboratory has a Weber multiple tank sprayer. With this device a number of micro-plots can be treated simultaneously. Unlike devices used in other research centres, both the solution volume and spray pattern of the IRDA sprayer are adjustable.
