Deschambault

Our Deschambault facility in the Portneuf region is a major player in research on livestock production and animal welfare.  With its experimental chambers, which simulate hog and poultry housing environments, IRDA tests animal feed diets and also ventilation and air scrubbing systems, with an eye to improving production techniques and methods. For example, after changing a herd’s diet the research team can assess the impact on waste production and even attain reductions in pollutants. The Deschambault centre also examines the energy potential of biofuels, with the goal of lessening dependence on fossil fuels.

IRDA also conducts market gardening research at this location.
