Stéphane Lemay holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in agricultural engineering from Université Laval. In 1996 he earned a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, also from Université Laval. Before joining IRDA, Stéphane worked for seven years as a researcher heading up the engineering research program at the Prairie Swine Centre in Saskatoon. In July 2000 he received the Young Engineer of the Year Award from the Canadian Society for Bioengineering for his outstanding leadership in developing technical solutions for odour control and creating a better environment for workers and animals alike in the swine industry. He was also given the AIAQ Young Engineer Award in 2005 by Association des ingénieurs en agroalimentaire du Québec for his contributions to the advancement and scope of practice of the profession. He has served as R&D Director at IRDA since July 2010.
